I just moved into this new housing development in Silliman, North Carolina. Nice homes in the 500,000 range. I have a post and beam Colonial with a 2 acre parcel. We all share beautiful scenic views of the Blueback mountains.

Most of my neighbors are retired performers, many who appeared in films or television in the early 70′s & 80′s. They usually just keep to their own & I just give a neighborly nod whenever I see them either mowing their lawn or taking out the trash.

I thought it would be nice if I had a "Last Day of Summer" Pool party for some of these celebrity neighbors such as Rocky Squirrel, Bullwinkle Moose, Mr. Peabody & his boy Sherman, Boris & Natasha Badanov, Donald & Daisy Duck, Fred & Wilma Flintstone, Underdog, Mr. Magoo, Heckle & Jeckle, Tom & Jerry, & George & Jane Jetson.

As stated, it will be a pool party and very informal. I was thinking Steaks, Chops, salads, etc and cold drinks Any suggestions for what I should serve would be greatly appreciated.

The story began when two residents of Ashville went to New York City, to attend an antique show. On their return, they started an antique study club meeting, named Vetust Study Club, with a total of 8 members. Slowly & gradually the idea expanded & turned into an antique show in 1946, and has been held every year except 1947.

The proceeds from the fair are used to support worthy causes & organizations in the Buncombe County, of which Ashville is the county seat.

The Fair is a proud sponsor of quite a few renovations of old & historic buildings, as well as museums in the city. The fair features more than 50 antique dealers, verbal appraisals by some well known personalities in the business, as well as lunches & tea parties. The Vetust Study Club has become an icon for Ashville as a community-oriented organization.

The North Carolina Mountain State Fair also lays claim to bringing the people of the mountain communities together. It provides fun & joy for all young & old with rides, animal shows, plenty of food & some live music.

With an estimated attendance of 175,000 in its 14th year, the state fair is definitely something to visit & enjoy.

The fair is hosted by the Western North Carolina Agricultural Centre & runs for 10 days till around midnight on most days. The Fair features music & dance competitions along with different crafts & live stock related exhibits.
